Katazome is a dyeing method in which resist dyeing paste is placed on the cloth using a pattern paper, dyed with a brush dipped in a dyeing solution, or soaked in the dyeing solution, and the paste is removed by washing with water to create a pattern. Komon, which is carved with extremely fine patterns, and medium-size and arabesque, which are carved with medium-sized patterns, are typical examples of this technique, and are unique techniques widely used in Japan.
